Welcome to Doctoring a Career, a blog set up during my doctoral journey.
Hello, I am Ifza Shakoor, a PhD student at the International Centre of Guidance Studies (iCeGS) at the University of Derby. My thesis focuses on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusive Practice in the Career Development Sector in England, specifically on ethnically diversifying the pipeline. I am also the first Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Associate at the professional body, the CDI, which allows me to apply my research findings to make tangible changes in the field.
My philosophy and morals are grounded in a commitment to genuine change, which involves dismantling structural and systemic barriers and creating more equitable and inclusive environments. I am deeply interested in exploring issues of oppression and power structures, and believe that true progress can only be achieved by acknowledging and addressing the root causes of these issues. By promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, I am working towards creating a more just and equitable world where all individuals have the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential. I am dedicated to using my expertise and experience to promote meaningful change and create a more inclusive and equitable society for all.
My academic research interests primarily focus on ethnically diversifying the pipeline within the career development sector in England. As a third-generation British Pakistani, I have personal experience and a deep understanding of the challenges and barriers that individuals from ethnic minority backgrounds face in accessing and progressing in the workforce. Through my research, I aim to promote equity and diversity in the workplace, and to identify strategies for creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for individuals from diverse backgrounds.
In addition to my research, I also work as an Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Associate at the career sectors professional body, the CDI, where I have responsibility for all aspects of diversity. I am passionate about creating inclusive workplaces and communities, and I am in the process of launching my own consultancy to provide training and support to organisations looking to improve their EDI practices.
I believe that equity, diversity, and inclusion are essential components of a thriving and successful workplace, and I am committed to working towards creating a more equitable and diverse workforce. If you share these values and are interested in collaborating or learning more about my research or consultancy services, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I welcome any opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals and organisations who share my commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
If you are interested in connecting with me or collaborating on any research or projects, please feel free to reach out through my LinkedIn profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ifza-shakoor-09b054a6. My LinkedIn profile includes more detailed information about my educational and professional background, as well as any relevant experience or achievements. I am always looking to connect with other professionals in my field and welcome any opportunities for collaboration or networking.
